Corneal Crosslinking consists of a surgical procedure in which ultraviolet radiation is applied to the cornea together with Riboflavin in order to harden it and stop the deformation that occurs in certain diseases, such as Keratoconus and some other special cases.

The procedure is performed under anesthesia in drops, it takes between 30 to 35 minutes to perform both eyes, and at the end of the procedure a protective contact lens is placed for around four (4) days.

Common discomforts after treatment include foreign body sensation, annoyance with light and blurred vision, which resolve after 4 or 5 days, in most cases without complications. During the first two months after surgery, the patient may continue to notice slightly blurred vision.

After surgery, the patient must take antibiotic eye drops, as well as other pain relievers for several days. In some cases, preventive contact lenses are prescribed. After 3 to 5 days the patch covering the eye will be removed.

After a few months, you will not only notice the strengthening of the cornea and the improvement in visual acuity, but you will also notice how myopia, or difficulty seeing from a distance, decreases or disappears. It is a safe procedure, which in 95% of cases stops the progression of Keratoconus and without damage or side effects.
