It manifests itself as a nodular lesion, most of the time painless, which can occur spontaneously or secondary to a stye or meibomitis.

Early or small injuries can be managed medically with anti-inflammatories and with the use of hot compresses 3-4 times a day, and massages on the injury.

Excision is indicated when it does not resolve spontaneously or with medical treatment. 

The available and most viable option to perform is curettage.

The differential diagnosis of chalazion is made with: Stye, Sebaceous skin cyst, and Sebaceous gland carcinoma.

It can manifest as a nodular lesion with very painful inflammatory signs or as diffuse inflammation of the eyelid.

The cause of this disorder is a bacterial infection commonly caused by Staphylococcus aureus.

The treatment simply consists of hygienic measures that help maintain the cleanliness of the area, applying warm wet compresses to the eyelid for 10-15 minutes, 3 or 4 times a day.

When a yellowish spot appears, the infection usually drains spontaneously. You may need to consult with your ophthalmologist, because this condition most often requires the use of anti-inflammatories and oral systemic antibiotics.
