Excimer Laser

Excimer laser refractive surgery is used to correct myopia,

Refractive surgery with excimer laser allows the correction of myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism. The surgery is performed by applying a special laser beam to the cornea (first transparent lens of the eye). It is done with anesthesia drops. There are two different techniques, and it is decided according to the specific characteristics of each eye. One is called LASIK, which generates a disability of around 48 hours after the procedure. The other technique is called Trans-PRK and has a disability of 10 to 14 days.

Candidates for this surgery must be over 19 – 20 years old, have a stable defect, and have no other ocular alterations. Additionally, in patients over 50 years of age, this type of excimer laser surgery is generally not ideal, and another type of slightly more complex operation may be required, which is called phacoemulsification plus intraocular lens implantation for refractive purposes.
