Visual Field – Campimetry

The Zeiss Humphrey Field Analyzer III is a tool for measuring the human visual field. It is used by optometrists, orthoptists, and ophthalmologists, particularly for detecting monocular visual fields. The analyzer's results identify the type of vision defect.

Visual field testing, or campimetry, is a noninvasive functional examination of the sensitivity of the visual field. It is essential in glaucoma, since the progressive loss of nerve fibers in the optic nerve results in the loss of certain areas of the visual field. It is also essential in many neuro-ophthalmological diseases. The purpose of visual field testing is to discover these "blind" areas, locate them, and measure their extent. In glaucoma, visual field involvement usually begins in the nasal peripheral field, and in most cases of early or moderate glaucoma, it is virtually impossible for the patient to notice the appearance of the blind area without performing computerized campimetry.
