Recommendations to prevent complications after your cataract surgery

  1. The eye bandage is removed the day after surgery, before taking a shower.
  2. Clean your face as usual, allowing soapy water to run over the outside of your eye, avoiding direct contact with the eye.
  3. Wash your hands before applying drops or touching your eyes to avoid infection.
  • You do not require a special diet due to surgery. Continue your normal diet.
  • Avoid drinking alcoholic beverages.
  • It is normal for the operated eye to be red for the first few days after surgery.
  • Place the eye shield while sleeping for the first 8 days after surgery.
  • Wash the eye protector daily with soap and water, store in a clean, dry place.
  • You can safely perform daily activities that do not expose you to a direct blow to the eye and move your head in all directions, as your lens will not move.
  • Avoid heavy lifting and contact sports such as football and basketball for one month.
  • Avoid prolonged periods of time in front of a computer screen or playing video games.
  • Avoid exposing your eyes to hot vapors.
  • Apply the medication according to the prescription. If you have two or more types of drops, do not apply them at the same time. Wait 5-10 minutes between drops.
  • Dry your eyes by gently patting them dry; do not rub. Use only disposable tissues.
  • It is the responsibility of the patient and his/her family to apply the treatment for a speedy recovery.
  • If you are taking underlying medications, continue this routine after surgery.
  • Wear sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun and wind in open spaces; sunglasses are not required indoors.
  • Attend the check-ups prescribed by your doctor on time and bring the eye drops you are applying.
